Print guide

How to print a calendar without clipped dates.

A good calendar print comes down to four settings: paper size, orientation, scale, and margins. Get those right and everything else follows.

The five steps

  1. Open the right view. Use the year overview for landscape printing and a monthly or weekly page for portrait. Printing a year overview in portrait is the single most common cause of clipped columns.
  2. Match your paper size. Choose Letter in the United States and Canada, or A4 almost everywhere else. Setting this before you adjust anything else avoids re-tuning the scale twice.
  3. Start at 100% scale. Print at 100% first. If the last column or row clips, switch to "fit to printable area" rather than typing a custom percentage — the browser calculates a tighter fit than most people guess.
  4. Reduce the margins. Set margins to "minimum" or "none". Calendars are grids, so every millimetre reclaimed from the margin goes directly into writing space inside the cells.
  5. Check the preview before printing. Confirm that navigation and buttons are gone, that every date is visible, and that the grid is on one page. What you see in the preview is what reaches the paper.

Landscape or portrait?

A year overview packs twelve mini-months across the sheet and needs landscape. A monthly calendar and the weekly planner are taller than they are wide, so portrait gives each cell more height for handwriting.

Paper weight matters more than you would think

Standard 75–90 gsm copy paper is fine for a calendar you will replace next month. For something that lives on a wall all year, 120 gsm holds up to pen pressure without the ink showing through the back, and it does not curl in humid rooms. Matte beats glossy for anything you intend to write on.

Printing several months at once

Print one month per sheet rather than trying to fit two. Open a month, print it, then use the next-month link at the bottom of the page and print again — the layout stays identical between months because the grid always renders six rows.

Common problems

Why is the last column of my calendar cut off?
The sheet is wider than the printable area. Switch to landscape orientation for a year overview, or set the scale to "fit to printable area" for any view.
Why did my printer produce a blank second page?
The content is a few millimetres taller than one sheet. Reduce the margins to minimum, or set scale to "fit to printable area", and the overflow disappears.
Why are the holiday highlights missing from my printout?
Browsers strip background colors from printouts by default. Enable "Background graphics" (Chrome and Edge) or "Print backgrounds" (Safari and Firefox) in the print dialog.
How do I save a calendar as a PDF instead?
Choose "Save as PDF" in the destination menu of the print dialog. Your browser generates the file locally; Made for Paper never receives a copy.
