About Washington's Birthday
The federal holiday widely known as Presidents’ Day, honoring George Washington.
The official federal name is Washington’s Birthday, though many states, schools, and retailers call it Presidents’ Day. It always falls on a Monday, so it always creates a three-day weekend. The third Monday can fall anywhere from 15 to 21 February — never on Washington’s actual birthday of 22 February.
Also known as Presidents' Day.
How the date is set
The third Monday in February. Because it is pinned to a weekday rather than a calendar date, it never needs shifting — the actual and observed dates are always the same. It is always a Monday, so it always produces a three-day weekend.
